291 PROCEEDING The initial thrust for this work certainly came from an interpretation of the work/attitudes of the rest of the artcommunity. Yet as we continue, our points of reference/departure shift. Our initial reactions have suggested a way of proceeding that no longer operates solely in the context of 'reaction' to the art-world: the paucity of the notion that A & L is the conscience of the art-world becomes evident .
